The Civil Tek Remote Access Box (RAB) is provided to OEMs to interface a cable connected Wave Watch into their own systems. The board is the same as that used in the support pack for communication with the Wave Watch for test and setup. It is also used in the shore boxes supplied by Civil Tek for real time wave gage installations.

The RAB provides an interface between an electromechanical cable connected to a Wave Watch and an RS-232 serial port, such as a modem or PC. The RAB provides power for itself and the Wave Watch from an unregulated 12VDC power source, such as a battery/charger, solar panel or wall mount battery charger.

The RAB provides the following features, which facilitate cabled installations:

• Supports long cables up to 2 km.
• Supports use of low cost 7-conductor well logging cable for two-way digital communication.
• Provides lightning and surge protection for the cable interface.
• Provides power management with soft start power sequencing and low battery voltage disconnect to protect batteries from destructive discharge.
• Provides status indicators for communications and power. Cable fault indicator provided.
• External power on/off and status control lines are provided.
• Communications line protocol controlled by a programmable PAL.
